If you are like me, you don’t like to do things twice. Its a damn pain to take hundreds of hours building a new website, only to start over from scratch because you missed the mark, took to long, or grew too fast. I currently am working with a company that recently re designed their site. They have a clear goal, an appetite for good web design (thank god), and are eager to get things done quickly. But why are we starting over? Well more often than not, the team involved i the first round hurried the project, gave the client very little attention, and more than not didn’t care to solve tangible problems.
Anytime I start work on a new website, I ask one question. What issue are you currently having, that can be remedied by a new website. Once I know what the issue is, I can then work on a strategy to solve the problem. In fact, it is simply that easy to start off on the right foot. I never say here take this, or no I don’t have time today, or no no just follow me. I ask, I listen, I solve.
Over the course of my career I have yielded one key component of advice. If you want a good looking website that solves your problem the first time around, make sure you pay and I mean pay the person who seems most interested and connected to solving your problems. Make them explain the solution, and how it will play out. Sometimes it is an effort over time, but you will get there and in the long run save money doing it right the first time.
